JORDAN’S PRINCIPLE CULTURAL LANGUAGE NEST NAVIGATOR


FT/PT Position: 1 Full-time Permanent Position

Location: Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, ON

Reports To: Jordan’s Principle Service Coordinator

Salary: Based on qualifications and experience

Summary: The Language Nest Navigator will provide consultative support and team leadership to support Jordan’s Principle team in researching, planning, development, delivery, and evaluation fo Anishinaabemowin community programming.


Duties:

• Research and share First Nation philosophies, teaching and language learning styles, curriculum resources, and evaluation practices of effective and efficient language programs

• Coordinate and conduct professional development opportunities in yearly language planning, teaching, and learning strategies, adaptation and/or development of language curriculum materials, assessment practices

• Facilitate collaboration with school-based language teachers and community programs on the adaptation and development of yearly language plans and accompanying language and cultural materials

• Provide consultative support to assess the strengths and areas of improvement needed

• Participate in Jordan’s Principle assignments, initiatives, and projects as assigned

• Network with agencies and organizations to build strong relationships and strategic partnerships

• Maintain strict confidentiality and security protocols to protect client information

• Attend staff meetings as required or requested.

• Any other relevant job duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

• Completion of a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.

• Experience in collecting and reporting statistics.

• Oral fluency and literacy skills in Anishinaabemowin is required.

• Demonstrated experience in management, differentiated instruction, language learning, acquisition teaching methods, and assessments.

• Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with community members, elders, youth.

• Ability to travel extensively, including overnight.

• Abilit to work flexible work hours.

• Willing and able to provide a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

• Must possess a valid G class driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.

• Proficiency with computers and software applications, such as Microsoft Office.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Possess strong knowledge of the Aboriginal culture, traditions, language, and way of life.

• Must be able and willing to adhere to strict confidentiality and code of ethics.

• Willing to submit to workplace drug testing.
