WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR
FT/PT Position: 1 Full-Time Short Term Contact Position
Location: Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, ON
Reports To: Health Director
Closing Date: June 18, 2025
Summary: The Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for ensuring that the community has safe and clean water with the proper and efficient operation and maintenance of the community’s water supply, treatment, and distribution.
Duties:
â–ªMaintain the water treatment plant system in order to ensure the availability of a clean community water supply
â–ªMaintain and operate the filtering and chemical treatment processes
â–ªInspect, service and repair components of the water treatment plant including water intakes, pipes, water storage tanks, chemical treatment equipment controls, circulation pumps, boilers, heat exchangers, and valves
â–ªEnsure adequate supply of water for human consumption and firefighting emergencies
â–ªPrepare work orders for servicing and repairs and arrange for major repairs
â–ªInspect the treatment plant systems on a daily basis to ensure effective operations
â–ªConduct weekly water samples around community and provide reports to government agencies and departments
â–ªConduct regular inspections of the physical plant
â–ªConduct inspections of mechanical, generators, electrical and other building components and systems
â–ªMaintain all required levels of training
â–ªMaintain records, inventories, and prepare activity and work order reports
â–ªAttend and successfully complete any required pre-employment training and/or ongoing training as requested by the Health Director
â–ªWork as part of a team, including attending staff meetings as required or requested, and;
â–ªOther relevant job duties as assigned by the Health Director.
Qualifications:
â–ªCompletion of Grade 12 diploma / G.E.D. or equivalent an asset.
â–ªMust possess a valid Water Treatment Certificate, an OIT Water Treatment Certificate, and/or must be willing and able to seek all required levels of training.
â–ªProficiency with computers and software programs, such as Microsoft Office, to complete required reports.
â–ªMust be reliable and punctual, self-motivated and able to work unsupervised, and work as part of a team.
â–ªStrong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
â–ªMust be able to follow direction and understand the scope of job duties.
▪Possess a valid G class driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle an asset.
â–ªMust be willing to submit to workplace drug testing.
â–ªWabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation Band member an asset.
