FT/PT Position: 4 Short-Term Contract Positions

Location: Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation

Reports To: Housing/Public Works Manager

Rate of Pay: Based on qualifications and experience

Closing Date: open until filled


Summary: The Carpenter is responsible for assisting with the construction crew to provide inside and outside renovations and repairs to the homes as identified and required.


Duties:

•Repair and Renovate houses both indoor and outdoor using a variety of construction materials.

•Measure and lay out materials to be used while ensuring materials conform to specifications and codes.

•Finish surfaces as required by sanding, polishing, staining, or painting.

•Fitting and installing trim, moldings, door, door hardware, and stairs.

•Laying sub-floors and flooring, including carpeting, hardwood, tile, and laminate.

•Repairing or installing both shingle and metal roofing.

•Removal and clean-up of job site materials.

•Installing drywall and perform satisfactory mudding.

•Use various equipment, hand tools, and power tools in a safe and appropriate manner.

•Wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.

•Understand and follow safety policies, procedures, and standards.

•Attend staff meetings as required or requested.

•Attend any required pre-employment training and ongoing training as requested by the Carpenter and/or Human Resources.

•Other relevant job duties as assigned by the Construction Lead and/or the Chief and Council.


Qualifications:

•Completion of Grade 12 diploma / G.E.D. or equivalent is an asset but not a requirement.

•Prior work experience in a construction-related field required.

•Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.

•Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

•Valid full class G driver’s license is an asset.

•Ability to perform basic math.

•Experience using various power and manual equipment and tools.

•Must be able to work unsupervised and take initiative.

•Must have good attendance, punctuality, reliability, dependability, and strong work ethic.

•Ability to work in a team environment.

•Ability to follow direction, meet deadlines, and maintain a clean workspace.

•Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

•Must be able to submit to workplace drug testing.
