ANISHINAABEMOWIN LANGUAGE TEACHER


FT/PT Position: 1 Part-Time Position Available (33 Weeks)

Location: Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, ON

Reports To: Language and Culture Lead

Closing Date: Open until filled


Summary: The Anishinaabemowin Language Teacher is to work in conjunction with the Language and Culture Lead to develop and conduct Anishinaabemowin Language classes for Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation Band

Members.


Duties:

  • Provide hybrid learning via in classroom and online.

  • Implement lesson plans for both in person and online learning.

  • Facilitate language classes two (2) to three (3) times per week.

  • Work closely with the Language and Culture Lead, and Language Coordinator to collaborate on language materials.

  • Assist participants individually or in groups in completing lessons.

  • Continually review lesson plans to meet or adapt to the language groups needs and aspirations.

  • Ability to adapt and teach with the varying levels of fluency from beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

  • Attend any staff or community meetings as requested.

  • Attend and complete any pre-employment and ongoing training as it relates to the position.

  • Other relevant job duties as assigned by the Language and Cultural Lead.


Qualifications:

  • Possess a secondary (Grade 12) diploma / G.E.D. or equivalent is an asset.

  • Ability to understand and speak the Anishinaabemowin language is required.

  • Ability to manage, organize, and teach to large groups of individuals.

  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and use time efficiently.

  • Proficiency with computers and software applications, such as Microsoft Office.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Willing and able to provide a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

  • Must be reliable and punctual.

  • Ability to motivate and inspire others.

  • Must be able and willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to cooperate with other staff members and Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation members.

  • Demonstrates diligence, resourcefulness, and initiative.
