Dear Members Of Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation,

On behalf of the Chief and Council, and the Gakinamotiimin project team, it is our pleasure to invite you to our Winter Gathering. This gathering is to learn about projects effecting our community. Travel costs are being covered by WLON to all voting member 18 years and older. All minors under 18 years are the responsibility of parents, no chaperones will be provided.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is looking for a site to host a Deep Geological Respository. WLON has been learning about the project since 2015 but the deadline to get informed is fast approaching. (Fall 2024). We strongly encourage all members to be informed.

You are going to have the opportunity to learn about other projects happening within your territory. We have positive partnerships and concerns. Waaisgan project is a power line coming from east of Thunder Bay to Atikokan and then on to Dryden. Eight nations are in this partnership. Watay is another power delivery project, delivering power to the north, starting from our community to Pickle Lake and beyond. This will eliminate the need for diesel fluid transportation on ice roads. Lastly, you will have an opportunity to learn about mining activity within our territory.

Our community is reaching out to community members near and far, to contribute to our socio-ecomnic study. This will be available at this gathering. We are learning about band members and the skills they have to make our community stronger.

There has been a ton of Baseline study work that we would like to share with members as well.

It is also a perfect opportunity to get reconnected with family and to learn about your community. We strongly encourage you to attend this gathering, if this goes well, we are hoping to have another event.
